Born and raised in France, Thierry Despont is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts and holds a Masters degree in Urban Design and City Planning from Harvard University. "Architecte DPLG", Despont is a knight of the French Legion of Honor and a knight of the Arts and Letters. Based in New York City, he is the co-author of Restoring the Statue of Liberty Houses, a collection of his residential projects, and Le Bateau Ivre, a folio of his drawings illustrating Arthur Rimbaud's poem, "Le Bateau Ivre". Despont is also the author of Masks , Studio and Planets . (NB 02 (2002) Enamel, acrylic, oil stick, ink and paper on wood) What I am looking at is a close up painting of a planet, possibly Mars. The painting does not show the entire planet, which is good in some ways as you can see much more detail and precision of the colours and textures used. Visit to the IKON Gallery in Birmingham

IKON Gallery I visited the IKON Gallery in Birmingham on the 17th November 2018. There was a small exhibition going on at the time by an artist called Polly Apfelbaum. The name of the exhibition was 'Waiting for the UFOs (a space set between a landscape and a bunch of flowers)'. I really enjoyed looking at her work, as even though the layout of her pieces were almost identical, the colours and patterns she created were unique in every one. A lot of her work was in the shape of circles, thus it reminded me of planets and black holes, which I could link straight away to my art theme of Cosmos.  ('Sun Targets', 2018, Ceramic and Glaze)

From the Start to Now: Studying Vanja Vukelic I think from the very beginning when I first chose Vanja Vukelic to be my artist that I would study, I had a creative epiphany. I felt like this was the kind of artist I had been looking for, and I fell in love with her work. I love illustrations and I love the themes within her work and the types of ways she conveys them. However, my first board did not show how excited I was to work on this artist and create my own work with inspiration from her. We then started working in our sketchbooks and although a lot of it is me experimenting with the kind of themes she explores and experimenting with the designs in her pieces, I think my drawing has improved massively. I had never been fond of drawing in pencil or fineliner due to the fact that I had nothing to motivate me to practice with both, but this was the perfect time to study something I loved and also improve my drawing skills.  These images above are from when I cut...
