Evaluation of Cosmos Presentation Board - 'Introduction to the Cosmos'

I really enjoyed creating the presentation board honestly. I think there was some things that I did well but there is a lot I could have improved on. For the most part, I think time was a huge factor that meant I couldn't create what I wanted to do. I really wanted to paint the entire background but I could not do that in the 2 hours I had. Thinking about it, I could have done the background at home and then bought it into the college ready for Friday. I usually work with smaller pieces of work, A4 is the size I often feel comfortable with working on, or any smaller than that. Any bigger, and then I start to panic as I don't like working with larger scale work, but I do hope throughout my time here and as I progress with my work, that I will feel comfortable with doing so eventually. I do like the fact that I managed to paint almost-half of a planet on the side of my work, I think it varies the type of work on my presentation board and I really do like the monochrome planets, although I do miss working with colour too.

Along with that, I like the fact that the pictures are easy to see and take up most of the room on the board; however, writing about them was slightly difficult as I had a lot to say but not enough room - small text might be a good thing though for presentation boards, I think it's more of the quality rather than the quantity. 

As for the composition of the board, I think it definitely has a variety of things, from my own photos, to the text, titles and the small painting I did. However, I tried to create different sections for each piece of work, so one section for the asteroid in charcoal, another for creating the paper asteroids, but looking at it now I feel like it merges together too much.

Ways to Improve:
- spend more time working on the board, don't leave everything to the last lesson
- spend more time researching other presentation boards
- create a way to stop all the work merging together into one (boxes?)
- better/bigger titles
- more colour (painting the background?)
- perhaps instead of writing, printing the information off and gluing it on instead 


Things I did well:
- variety of things; primary and secondary photos, sculptures, small painting etc
- concise writing

Visit to the IKON Gallery in Birmingham

IKON Gallery I visited the IKON Gallery in Birmingham on the 17th November 2018. There was a small exhibition going on at the time by an artist called Polly Apfelbaum. The name of the exhibition was 'Waiting for the UFOs (a space set between a landscape and a bunch of flowers)'. I really enjoyed looking at her work, as even though the layout of her pieces were almost identical, the colours and patterns she created were unique in every one. A lot of her work was in the shape of circles, thus it reminded me of planets and black holes, which I could link straight away to my art theme of Cosmos.  ('Sun Targets', 2018, Ceramic and Glaze)

From the Start to Now: Studying Vanja Vukelic I think from the very beginning when I first chose Vanja Vukelic to be my artist that I would study, I had a creative epiphany. I felt like this was the kind of artist I had been looking for, and I fell in love with her work. I love illustrations and I love the themes within her work and the types of ways she conveys them. However, my first board did not show how excited I was to work on this artist and create my own work with inspiration from her. We then started working in our sketchbooks and although a lot of it is me experimenting with the kind of themes she explores and experimenting with the designs in her pieces, I think my drawing has improved massively.
